Finding The Presence of The Lord

Throughout this entire week the song, “Freedom Reigns” has been ringing in my heart. The verse says, “Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” The chorus echos the same sentiment when it says, ” Freedom reigns in this place. Showers of mercy and grace

Falling on every face. There is freedom.” When I hear this song, I am reminded of the scripture in 2 Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

The beautiful thing I’ve discovered while being a Christian is that God is accessible. We serve an available God. He’s always there, no matter the time of day. Jesus is up early in the morning and way in the middle of the night. We can call Jesus at home, in our kitchen, car, job, train, and of course, the tabernacle. His presence is always with us; all we have to do is reach out and touch Him. When you think about it, we have an all-access pass with the Father!

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

2 Corinthians 3:17 King James Version

When I read 2 Corinthians 3:17, two words stick out to me; where and liberty.

Where is important because yes, we know God is a spirit, but if we don’t know where to find Him, we will miss out on liberty. Liberty means freedom. The dictionary defines liberty as “freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice. It is freedom from arbitrary or despotic government or control. So when you find the presence of God, the devil cannot control you because you are free from his oppressive government control. You are free from his hampering conditions, power, and you now have the freedom to chose.

The scripture goes further by saying, “There is liberty.” When you focus on the first two words, ” there is,” you realize it is an affirmation statement. God didn’t say there may be liberty; He said there is. You are reassured that where God is there is freedom. Where God is, I am made whole. In the presence of the Lord, I don’t have to worry because God is with me.

In Jeremiah 29:13, it says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” We have to seek if we want to find God earnestly. It must be a strong desire. It must be our number one desire to find Him, and we must do it with all of our hearts. It can’t be a piece of our heart or twenty-five percent of our heart, but all our hearts. This is important because a man can’t read man’s heart but God can.

Therefore where God is, there is liberty, and we will find freedom when we have searched for Him with all our hearts. We will find peace when we make it our desire to want God and no one else.

You might say, I don’t want anyone; I want Jesus. However, have you checked your spiritual growth? Are you growing in God?

We may want God, but sometimes we have a funny way of showing it. When I read both scriptures, my takeaway is it has to be an individual desire. It can’t be a Sunday morning desire but an everyday desire. I have to want it more than life itself.
