Atleast, Spread Your Bed
Every morning I wake up I hit my alarm clock. I hit the snooze button savoring the last moments of sleep. I roll over and turn over in my bed trying to soak in the remaining minutes. Nevertheless, after 10 hits I get up and face the fact that I “gots to get up”. I do my normal routine, get myself together and before I leave I observe my room. I look at my bed and I spread it.
It might seem like an insignificant detail or a normal thing to do but spreading your bed is so important. Studies show those who spread their bed are more likely to have a great start to their day because they accomplished one thing by making their bed. But for me, as a Christian making my bed is my way of establishing a door for the Holy Spirit to enter.
Let me explain.
The presence of the Lord can only dwell in clean and peaceful places. God cannot dwell in our hearts if our inside is dirty. Therefore, God cannot dwell in our homes if our house is dirty. Throughout the week we are on the go. We’re at work and at school. We work long hours, travel, host events, and we often don’t get time to keep our place as clean as we should. But spreading the bed every day is a great start. It’s an invitation to the Holy Spirit saying you can abide here. When we leave our bed untidy all kinds of spirits can dwell in our bed. But God is a gentleman. He won’t sit in our untidy beds because there is no place for Him to sit. When we spread our bed we make room for God to dwell. Once we start spreading our bed we’ll become more self-conscious of the condition of our room, bathroom, kitchen and so forth.
So, no matter what at least spread your bed. Make room for God to sit so his presence can dwell in your home and your heart.
