We Need To Get Back To The Basics
Today I am going to do better. That’s what I told myself when I woke up this morning. I am going to do better. It’s not surprising to me that I gained the quarantine 15, as some would call it, and I started thinking to myself, ” How did I gain this weight?’
What did I do to put on these pounds? Haha! I immediately assessed my eating habits and realized that I had been out of touch with my routine. I stopped drinking water, taking my vitamins, eating fruits each day, and most importantly, I started eating late at night. I knew this could not continue because I have a dress to fit into, and there wouldn’t be time for me to re-order.
So this morning, I drank and a full bottle of water. I took my vitamins. This week I ate my dinner at a reasonable time and ensured I drank more water continuously throughout the day. As I sat this morning, meditating on God’s words, I began to think. Sometimes as Christians, we fall off the path. We drift off the road to heaven, leaving the map behind, following our minds. Once we realized we’re lost, we begin to call God. We ask ourselves, “How did I get here?” Forgetting we put ourselves on this path once we thought we had this journey down pact.
We need to get to the basics of Christianity. We need to get back to the word of God. The water is like Christianity. The water helps purify my body, its good for me, and beforehand, I had no desire for juices of sodas. But since the quarantine, I put on the back burner the foundational eating habits that helped me maintain a healthy weight.
As Christians, we often make that same mistake. We put God on the back burner, thinking we can maintain our Christian living without Him. Well, we can’t.
We need to return back to the word of God. Return back to fasting and prayer. Return back to shut in moments with Jesus. We need to return to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to return back to bible study and good Christian fellowship. We need to return to the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We need to return back to the basics. Without a good foundation, the house cannot stand.
So go back to what made your hair grow. Go back to what made your skin glow. Go back to what made you feel free. Let us get back to the foundational pillars in Christianity so our relationship can grow.
Ahh– just in time for another water break.
