NYC Restaurant Week at Bluefin

It is restaurant week in New York City ——- See Story below

I rush in at 6 p.m. already late for the dinner date with my mom. Rush hour and rain in NYC with no umbrella equals disaster. But I was determined to get where I was going. Google maps almost had me walking in circles before I finally found this hidden restaurant right off Broadway and 47th street, The BlueFin.

Known for some of the best seafood in New York City, the blue fishes and modern ecentric touches really invites you in. The table setting include your utensils with a small blue plate for small foods.

Excited to try new foods and wanting to make sure my pick for this dinner was worth it, our waiter came along and began to walk us through the Restaurant week menu. During restaurant week you can receive a three course menu at a discounted rate from the restaurant. You may receive smaller portions of food but it is a great way to try to new places and get a feel of the restaurant by going during this period of time.

My order was the Sweet Shrimp, & Tuna Roll, Surf and Turf for the main course, and for dessert, the Trio of House made Sorbets.

Starting with the sushi roll, the traditional soy sauce was not provided by instead replaced by this delicious basil and honey-lemon aioli sauce. The sushi roll had sweetness from the plums wrapped with the shrimp and salmon. I dipped my sushi in the sauce, which was so little I was scrapping for more, and savoured every bite.

The Surf and Turf presentation was echelon. You can’t go wrong with steak and shrimp, and the BlueFin did not. My steak was well done and seasoned well. The shrimp had this cajun blend and was cooked in a sea of spices. I especially enjoyed my chickpeas cakes that were at the end of my steak. While I was not a fan of the eggplant salad due to the tanginess the mushroom and balsamic sauce made up for the that.

Lastly, the sorbet was a delicious way to end the night with its light sweetness. I believe my flavors were watermelon, mango, and strawberry. Each were in its own center and ready to melt in my mouth.

BlueFin exceeded my expectations and I would love to go back and dive into their other delicious meals on their main menu.
