I Tried Good Housekeeping Thanksgiving Dessert Recipes

Testing and Trying Good Housekeeping Pies in this month's November Issue

Thanksgiving day is upon us, and with only a few days left, the countdown begins for the best Thanksgiving dessert. Now you know I am an avid print magazine reader, and my Good Housekeeping November issue showed up just on time. So I baked all day and ate all night as I tried some of their amazing recipes.

Here are my top favorites from this month’s issue!

  1. Pie Spiced Apple Fritters

Anything apple is always delicious, and this dessert is right up there with #appledesserts. What I love most about this recipe is the simplicity. It is a quick and easy handheld dessert that is made in a matter of minutes.

Tips

    • The recipe calls for apple pie spice, but you exchange it for pumpkin pie spice. Swapping out apple pie spice for pumpkin pie spice won’t affect the flavoring of your fritter. It will taste like fall wrapped in sugary goodness.
    • For frying: The recipe calls for a deep fryer; however, if you don’t have a deep fryer on hand, a deep, round pot will do the trick.

2. Cookie-Stuffed Brownie

I love chocolate, and these will provide a nice chocolate kick. Crushed Oreos and bittersweet chocolate chips mixed in with cocoa powder melt right in your mouth with a nice cold glass of milk. Not only can you make this dessert ahead of time, but this is vegetarian.

Tips

You can use any sandwich cookies you prefer. I used oreo cookies, but you can do double stuffed or vanilla or anything that bakes well.

It says to bake for 35-45 minutes; however, I would recommend baking at 35 minutes, leaving the middle more gooey and soft inside.

3. Spiced Pumpkin Pie

I’m more of a sweet potato pie lover; however, this Spiced Pumpkin Pie was as spiced as I would have liked it to be. This recipe did not include pumpkin pie spice but had all the flavors of a pumpkin pie. It was wobble than I would have preferred, but my friends and family loved it, especially with whipped cream. This mix is simple because all the ingredients are mixed in one bowl, so fewer dishes are washed.

The Cherry Berry Jumble Fruit Pie can also be found on the Country Living Magazine. This is something I would eat because fruit in desserts isn’t always appealing to me. However, the berry mixture was tarty and quite delicious. I will warn you that this recipe is very runny as the fruits melt away under the heat.

This recipe is probably my favorite dessert out of all the desserts I’ve tried. It is so creamy, delicious, and decadent. What I love about this recipe is the three different chocolate bars used. It makes it rich but not overly sweet. I used the Ghiradelli brand, which elevates the pie to another level.

Tips

I exchanged the expresso with unsweetened cocoa powder.

You can find this recipe on CountryLiving.com.

So those are my faves, and I can’t wait to see yours. Happy Thanksgiving!
