My Top Five Thanksgiving Sides

There is nothing like some good ole’ Thanksgiving sides. Yes, we love turkey with some delicious stuffing and the typical mash potatoes and gravy, but when you take your Thanksgiving sides to another level, you have arrived.

In the last few years, Thanksgiving sides have become the focal point of Thanksgiving. We now have #Sidesgiving and #Friendsgiving, all dedicated to the delicious sides that are the star of the show.

So here is a list of my top five #Thanksgivingsides!

  1. Penne Alla Vodka with Ground Beef Meat sauce
    1. I love pasta! Anything pasta and I’m there with a fork and plate. But Penne ala Vodka with Meat sauce is one of my favorites sides for Thanksgiving. You can do this without ground beef meat or with ground beef meat, depending on your diet. But a good Penne is an excellent replacement for the typical starches like rice or mashed potatoes. It’s cost-effective, cooks in a jiffy, and it shares around the table. Don’t short your guest; make this Penne Ala Vodka and watch this become a classic hit!
  2. Sweet Potatoes (AKA Candied Yams)
    1. I LOVE SWEET POTATOES! This is classic at my family’s Thanksgiving. There is not a year that goes by when my mom does not make Sweet Potatoes. She peels, cuts in chunks, and boils the sweet potatoes in salted water until they are tender. Then she in a large pan, she adds butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar with a dash of nutmeg, and you can lick your beautiful fingers. I can taste it now. This is a must-have at your Thanksgiving dinner!
  3. Baked Mac and Cheese with Ritz Crackers
    1. Adding ritz crackers takes your Baked Mac and Cheese to another level. My favorite recipe was recently removed from the FoodNetwork, but all you do is crush 1-2 sleeves of ritz crackers with melted butter and cheese. The mixture should be mushy but still, have somebody and firmness. Press it down in the large pan and bake for about 5-10 minutes. Ensure this doesn’t burn. Then mix your macaroni and bake in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, and your guest will be craving for more.
  4. Asparagus wrapped in bacon or roasted mix vegetables
    1. I know this is a two-prong answer, technically making it six items, but I tried bacon-wrapped asparagus last year, and I fell in love—the saltness from the bacon and peppered asparagus makes you drool. If you’re not into the asparagus, then try roasted vegetables with your favorites veggies! Add chopped garlic, a fresh herd mixture with garlic and salt, and some red pepper flakes, and you’ve got yourself a meal.
  5. Creamed Spinach
    1. For the last few years, I’ve enjoyed creamed spinach as a Thanksgiving side. I think this side will delicious for the kids who don’t eat their greens. Put some cheese on it, and you’ve got your kid eating out the palm of your hand. One of my favorite Creamed Spinach recipes is from Dinner Then Dessert. Check out her recipe and try it for yourself.

This list doesn’t encompass all the delicious sides I’ve had, just some of my top favorites I can’t wait to taste this Thanksgiving. I hope you’ll give them a try and share your top faves with me!
