Don’t Get Comfortable
I’m on this skincare journey. I’ve decided to take care of my skin. There’s no point in putting on makeup if my skin is a horror story underneath. Not that skin my was horrendous before this journey, but I knew it could be better. So I’ve been hunkering down and sticking to my routine for clearer and better skin.
But one night, I was feeling a little lazy. I did not feel like washing my face. Before this moment, I didn’t miss a beat. But that night, I wanted to 1,2 step my way into my bed. But a voice in my head said get up, girl; you made a promise to yourself that you would be consistent. So I got up and washed my face. As I was scrubbing, I heard God speak to me. He said, “look how far you’ve come. You can’t get comfortable now. Just because you’ve been doing good, you can’t stop now.”
Ahh, yes, comfortability. We all have fallen down that slope before. Once we’re on that track of success, we fall into comfiness and convince ourselves that we can bounce back any time we want. Well, that’s a lie. To stay on the path of success can be difficult and daunting. You have to work extra hard to maintain your place while moving to your next destination. The amount of work it took for you to get there is double the amount you’ll need to keep you there. Let’s not put the car in cruise mood. Keep the pedal to the metal, and keep on moving and don’t get comfortable.
Don’t convince yourself that you can bounce back when you miss your morning devotion or skip bible study for two weeks. Don’t ease up on your prayer time with God because you feel all “prayed up.” Don’t miss the times to talk to the Father. You still need it just like my face still needed the soap to remove the dirt sitting where I can’t see.
As Paul said, we have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We need Jesus Christ to abide with us day and night. Be consistent and be in constant communication with Jesus. Consistency is key. Let’s stay alert and be ready at all times. Don’t get comfortable.
