Get Back to What Makes You Happy
I’ve been in a funk this week, and I couldn’t figure out why? For the past few days, I woke up feeling unmotivated and lazy. I didn’t want to edit videos or write a blog post. I had nothing in the tank. One day I decided to edit a video, but the motivation wasn’t there. I was running on fumes. My computer was about ready to blow up in flames from all the editing I was trying to accomplish.
Yesterday, I was determined to figure out how I got here. Why was I feeling this way? Sometimes we get into these weird, funky moments where everything feels off. We try to figure out what’s wrong but can never put our finger on it. Well, today was the day. These feelings were going to go away. I did the one thing I knew to do– I opened my Bible. I read a few chapters of Proverbs, where Solomon talks about wisdom. The first few chapters highlighted the importance of fearing the Lord and having understanding. The Bible discussed the detriment that incurs if we follow evil instead of good. While reading, I began thinking.
I have to get back to what makes me happy. I have to cling to what motivates me and keeps my spirits alive. For me, it is reading the word of God, being surrounded by my family and friends, and praying. It is talking to God constantly throughout the day. It is writing music and watching my favorite T.V. show after a hard day’s work. It is being in His presence and singing for the Lord. These are just some of the few things that keep me up.
After reading God’s word and spending time with Him, I felt motivated. My feelings changed. You see, Jesus can do that. He can come in and remove those feelings. All we have to do is shake off those dead weights and give them all to Jesus.
Get back to what makes you excited! Get back to what makes you smile. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves to be kind to ourselves. We cannot neglect our happiness.
With Jesus, you receive more than happiness — you receive joy and peace. His peace is the peace that passeth all understanding. If you’re in a funk — fight it. You can do it. Get back to the place where you were smiling because life was worth living. Life can be tough sometimes, but not forever. We still have a choice to make today better than yesterday. We still have an opportunity to make better decisions, to begin to live the life worth living, and to have internal peace.
Get back to happiness — it looks good on you!
