I am Thankful for Life
Giving Thanks in the season of Thanksgiving
Only 20 days until Thanksgiving, and I already taste the turkey on my lips. The holidays are always my favorite time of the year because it is a time for God, family, and reflection. It is a time to appreciate and show love to another (even though we should do it all the time). Now Thanksgiving is more than just a turkey and the unbelievable sides, but it is also about giving thanks. So what are you thankful for?
This year has been one for the books. If God tarries, I will be telling my children and grandchild about 2020. But despite the bruises, cuts, and pains we received in 2020, I am thankful for my life. When the pandemic hit and took the life of a very close family friend, I was devasted. We couldn’t even bury her and grieve the way we wanted because we weren’t allowed due to COVID-19. I was fearful at first when I had to go to the supermarket and pharmacies because of COVID-19. I was sad because my Church could not run as we usually would. Life felt stuck. But one Sunday, the preacher preached and said it could have been worse. All our lives could have been taken, but thank God Jesus stepped in.
So I AM THANKFUL FOR MY LIFE! I thankful that God has given me one more opportunity to live for Him. I am grateful that amid a season of sadness and pain, He shined His light on me. Thanksgiving will be here again, and God’s willing, I will be alive to see it.
I can’t take life for granted because God has been soooooooooo good. Words cannot express the goodness of the Lord. He said in His word that “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want,” and He is a good shepherd. Look around. Many people didn’t make it. Many have lost their lives. COVID-19 has destroyed families, but God. It’s because of Jesus why I am still here. It is because of His mercies, and for that, I am thankful. My heart is full, and my desire to live for Jesus has increased immensely. (Psalm 23:1 King James Version)
So thank you Jesus for my life. I am eternally grateful because Jesus died so I might live. During the pandemic, I was reminded in His word,” For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind,” in 2 Timothy 1:7. I was reminded in 1 John 4:4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Lastly, I was reminded in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.”
These three scriptures, along with others, strengthened my spirit. I was able to fly like eagles because my faith was in God. I looked unto the hills because that is where my help comes from, and if God can’t save me, no one can. I believed His word, and He never failed.
I am thankful for life. What are you thankful for? #whatareyouthankfulfor
