What is Palm Sunday?

What is Palm Sunday?

Every year around this time, we celebrate Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter, and oh yeah, SPRING BREAK! While many of us (even Christians) focus on Easter Sunday and the bunnies (who have nothing to do with Easter), and the Easter eggs (who have nothing to do with Easter), and Spring break (time off from school or work); do you ever stop to think what Palm Sunday is? Why do we celebrate it?

Palm Sunday is biblical, and you’ll find it in Matthew, Luke, and John. Palm Sunday is also known as “Passion Sunday” and marks the beginning of the Holy Week. Palm Sunday is a celebration of Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, which took place before His death and resurrection.

“7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.

8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.”

Matthew 21:7-11

This was a monumental event because Jerusalem knew that Jesus Christ was the Messiah. The people sang hosannas as he was paraded through the streets. Picture it, at that moment, Jesus was the most important man in the world and still is today. This was also important because prophecy was being fulfilled. The prophecy that was spoken of in the old testament was coming to pass. It needed to happen so that Jesus would die for our sins.

How can you Celebrate Palm Sunday?

Palm Sunday is always a week before Easter Sunday. You can celebrate by going to church. Some ministries will provide palm branches on Palm Sunday to wave during worship. This is to resemble what occurred during the actual event. Some ministries will read scriptures and other churches will worship and thank God for sending His son Jesus Christ.

Take this time to thank Jesus for coming and dying for us. If you don’t have a church or don’t know where to start, you join my ministry Faith Worship Center, Inc., https://www.fwcinc.org/, and watch us live at 11 AM EST on Sunday.

God Bless!
