God Matters More

Did you ever see the T.V. show “Avatar”? This show aired on Nickelodeon a few years ago, and it was a huge phenomenon. They even turned the show into a movie that wasn’t that good, by the way. There is a moment in season 2 where Aang has to learn to unlock the full power of the Avatar state. To master the Avatar state, Aang must let go of everything and everyone he loves. Frightened and angry that he had to do this, Aang does not master the Avatar state with the monk. However, eventually, when his friends needed him most, he had no choice but to let them go and master the Avatar state’s power.

What’s my point? God has to matter more than everything and everyone we love. Yes, that might seem scary to let go of the people we love but, we have to realize that when we love God more than everything, he overflows us with so much blessing. It’s God first and everything else after. God has to matter more because we are mere flesh. We cannot save nor help anyone without Jesus. We have no power on our own. We are dust.

Does this mean that we do not matter? No, we do. God loves us. He created us in his image (Genesis 1-2). He wants us to chose to love Him. But he has to matter more than anything to us. He has to matter more than our husband, wife, father, mother, children, friends, and the list goes on and on. He has to matter more than our workouts, money, career, lifestyle, fashion choices, and dreams. He has to more than the food we eat and the places we see. We have to put God before every single thing.

We can’t love God on Tuesday and leave him out to dry on Wednesday. We won’t be able to unlock what God has for us if we put him behind our husbands, wives, or children. The only way to receive the Holy Spirit is to surrender and lay ourselves at the feet of Jesus. Removing all distractions and letting go of your very self into the hands of God. When we have the Holy Spirit, we will be able to live this Christian life victoriously.

The scripture says in Jeremiah 29:13, ” And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” We have to seek for God with all our heart to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised the disciplines that he shall send the comforter (John 14:26). God has to be number one in our life. Not just number one on Sunday’s but number one every second of every day. That means even if we lose everything, if I have Jesus, I have everything.

For we are only humans born in sin. We sin every day and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). But God never fails, and when we lay our Issac down as Abraham did, God will then multiply and bless us exceedingly and abundantly.
